About us

Bergstan is a leading international consulting and development engineering company with 50 years of experience in the provision of professional engineering services in developing countries.

We focus our expertise to enhance quality of life through the development of sustainable projects in the core sectors of Environment, Water, Transportation, Urban Development and Information.

Bergstan has its roots in the Liebenberg & Stander Partnership, which was established in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1954. Encouraged by the changing political climate in South Africa, in 1992 we extended the delivery of our award-winning engineering services to the sub - Sahara Region through the establishment of an office in Gaborone, Botswana. In 2004, on the 50th anniversary of the formation of the original partnership, the Company changed its name to Bergstan and re-branded to become the international headquarters of the group’s Africa operations by making use of the Botswana International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). Our operations throughout Africa, with the exception of South Africa, are co-ordinated from our Gaborone based headquarters in Southern Africa where we springboard our in-depth African experience to provide world-class infrastructure across the continent. We have successfully converted our financial, technical and human resources to execute major infrastructure projects inter alia in Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Professional engineering services outside of Botswana are provided by Bergstan Investments (Pty) Ltd the IFSC registered Company, trading as Bergstan Africa whilst services within Botswana are provided by Bergstan (Pty) Ltd, trading as Bergstan Botswana.
